At Southport Library, south of London, they organised an exhibition of their famous citizen, Frank Hampson (1918-1985), a comics artist. Hampson has achieved an astonishingly technically detailed, sci-fi adventure, called by its eponymous hero ‘Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future’. The comics was originally the leading comics in youth magazine ‘Eagles’, from 1950 to 1961. Hampson’s artwork, with pages painted in colours, printed with the new technology which became available at that time, was a revolutionary achievement in comics, extremely popular in the UK and in the countries abroad.
